Grow Safe and Secure
The Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at Penn State has partnered with the Department of Defense to develop Grow Safe and Secure (GSS). GSS is a manualized curriculum designed to serve high-needs families with children who are 5 to 10 years old. This program has been developed for one-on-one delivery and uses a structured decision-making model for implementation, so content can be tailored to each family to address overall parenting skills, risks related to child neglect, and risks related to child abuse. GSS focuses on multiple aspects of parental emotional awareness, self-regulation, and mentalization as foundational tools to address dysregulation at multiple levels: individual (e.g., adult, child), dyadic (e.g., parent-child), and family system (e.g., rigid or chaotic rules and routines).
