Military-Community Support Programs
The Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy has partnered with the Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at Penn State (Clearinghouse) to conduct a pilot project to implement Pure Power, which is a school-based curricula designed to promote social-emotional learning and self-regulation in youth who are in grades kindergarten – 12. A feasibility implementation pilot of the Pure Power curricula will include training of and curricula delivery by Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) at three military installations (Fort Campbell, Fort Bragg, and Kadena Air Force Base). Once the feasibility implementation pilot concludes an implementation pilot will be conducted. An outcomes evaluation is expected to occur following approval from the Office of Management and Budget. Enactment of the outcomes evaluation is dependent on the results of the feasibility implementation pilot. Currently, the Clearinghouse is responsible for preparing and delivering training on the three grade levels of the curricula, coaching MFLCs during program delivery, collecting qualitative data during the feasibility implementation pilot, and planning for the outcomes evaluation.
