Evaluation of State Implementation of Supportive Policies to Improve Educational Experiences and Achievement for K-12 Military Children
In partnership with the Defense State Liaison Office (DSLO), the SPEAK Military Children project will investigate the implementation of programs, policies, and supports for military-connected students in kindergarten through 12th grade in all 50 states and Washington D.C.
Military child education (PK-12) has been identified as playing a significant role in readiness and retention of Service members and their families. The Defense-State Liaison Office (DSLO), within the Undersecretary of Personnel and Readiness, focuses on military family quality of life, including PK-12 education, through engagement with state policymakers on a variety of initiatives. The success of DSLO’s policy advocacy depends on state policies being implemented with fidelity. Understanding current gaps in the implementation of state policies intended to support military-connected children informs future DSLO state policy work and other DoD efforts to assist in improving educational outcomes for military children. For additional information about the DSLO, please see their website.
